Blood tests for dogs, cats, cows and buffaloes in Bhopal

A blood test shows how an animal's blood cells, liver, kidneys, sugar, minerals, hormones and defence system are working. It is the usual first step when an animal is unwell, before surgery, and for regular health checks. Every blood test below lists its sample type, and blood can be collected free of charge anywhere in Bhopal.

About these tests

What does a blood sample show?

One small sample can answer many questions. Blood counts such as the CBC show anaemia, infection and clotting problems. Chemistry tests such as the LFT and KFT show how the liver and kidneys are coping. Other tests look at blood sugar, minerals, hormones, thyroid, vitamins and signs of inflammation.

Which blood tube is used?

Different tests need different tubes. Blood counts usually need an EDTA tube, most chemistry tests need serum from a plain tube, clotting tests need a citrate tube and glucose needs a fluoride tube. The lab or your vet picks the right one, so you do not need to decide. Each test page lists the sample type.

Should the animal fast first?

Some tests, such as glucose, lipids and bile acids, are easier to read after fasting. Follow your veterinarian's advice, and never starve a puppy, kitten, calf or a sick animal unless your vet says so.

Who reads the result?

A registered veterinarian should read the report together with the animal's signs and history. Normal values differ between dogs, cats, cows and buffaloes, so the report shows the range for the species.

Questions about blood tests

Which blood test should I get for my dog or cat?
Your veterinarian chooses tests from the signs. A CBC and a liver and kidney panel (LFT and KFT) are common first tests, and health packages bundle them. If you are unsure, call or WhatsApp the lab and describe the signs.
How much blood is needed for a blood test?
Usually a few millilitres. The sample volume is listed on each test page, and one sample can often serve several tests, so your animal is bled only once.
Can blood be collected at home in Bhopal?
Yes. Sample collection is free anywhere in Bhopal. Book online, choose a date and time slot, and the collector comes to your home, clinic or dairy.
Can I send blood samples from outside Bhopal?
Yes. Book first, then send the sample by courier or bus parcel, or hand it to your local veterinarian. The lab tells you how to pack and label it.
How soon are blood test reports ready?
Routine blood tests are normally reported the same day or within 24 hours. Special tests take longer and the lab confirms the reporting time when you book.
Can I get blood tests done from Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, Sagar, Dewas or Chhindwara?
Yes. Pashupatinath Vet Lab, Shahpura, Bhopal, receives samples for testing. Sample collection is free anywhere in Bhopal. From Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, Sagar, Dewas or Chhindwara and every other Madhya Pradesh district, the sample can be sent by courier, bus parcel or through your local veterinarian. Book first or call, so the lab can tell you how to take, label and pack the sample.

Prices are in Indian rupees. The final amount is confirmed at booking. Tests marked “Price on request” are confirmed when you book, together with the sample needs and reporting time. A registered veterinarian should read every result with the animal’s signs and history.
