Cat lab tests & health packages in Bhopal

Lab tests can help your vet find out why a cat is unwell, check its kidneys, liver and thyroid, and look for virus infections. Sample collection is free anywhere in Bhopal.

Cats often hide illness until they are quite unwell. A lab test can show changes inside the body that are hard to see from outside. A vet may ask for tests when a cat eats less, loses weight, drinks more water, vomits, has loose motions, or has itchy skin or a lump. Tests are also used for health checks, for older cats and before surgery.

The lab does blood counts, liver and kidney tests, blood sugar and thyroid tests, urine and stool tests, and skin and fungus tests. For cats, rapid tests can help detect FIV, FeLV, feline parvo and feline coronavirus. FIV and FeLV are viruses that weaken a cat's defence against illness. The lab also does cat-specific blood tests such as feline T4 and feline pancreatic lipase. A biopsy or cell test (cytology) looks at tissue or cells from a lump under a microscope.

Sample collection is free anywhere in Bhopal. Routine tests are normally reported the same day or within 24 hours. For biopsy and other special tests, the reporting time is confirmed when you book. Reports reach you on WhatsApp or email and in My Reports on this website. A registered veterinarian reads the results together with your cat's signs and history.

Common problems

Illnesses in cats and the tests that help

Kidney disease

Kidney disease is common in older cats and can cause weight loss, more thirst and more urine. A kidney function test (KFT), an SDMA test (another kidney marker in the blood) and a urine test can help your vet see how the kidneys are working.

Parvo in kittens (panleukopenia)

Feline parvo, also called panleukopenia, mostly affects kittens and can cause vomiting, loose motions and a sharp fall in white blood cells. A rapid stool test and a CBC (blood cell count) can help your vet look for it.

FIV and FeLV

FIV and FeLV are viruses that weaken a cat's defence against illness, and they can pass from cat to cat. An FIV/FeLV combo rapid test on blood serum, the clear part of the blood, can help detect them.

FIP (feline infectious peritonitis)

FIP is a serious illness linked to a cat coronavirus and can cause fluid to build up in the belly or chest. A Rivalta test on that fluid is a quick screening test, and your vet may add other tests.

Diabetes and thyroid problems

Diabetes and an over-active thyroid are more common in middle-aged and older cats, and both can cause weight loss and extra thirst. Blood sugar tests, including fructosamine and HbA1c (checks of longer-term sugar control), and a thyroid (T4) test can help your vet check for them.

Skin problems and ringworm

Itching, hair loss and scabs can be caused by fungus such as ringworm, by mites or by bacteria, and a skin scraping or a fungus test can help find the cause. A culture and sensitivity test grows the germ and shows which antibiotics may work, and your vet may then choose treatment.

When to test a cat

  1. Kitten (first year)

Vets often consider a stool test for worms and an FIV/FeLV rapid test for a new kitten, and a feline parvo rapid test if a kitten has vomiting or loose motions. Ask your vet what is right for your animal.

  2. Adult cat (after the first year)

Vets often consider a CBC, kidney and liver tests and a urine test as part of a yearly health check, and an FIV/FeLV rapid test for a new or outdoor cat. Ask your vet what is right for your animal.

  3. Older cat (senior years)

Vets often consider kidney tests such as KFT and SDMA, a thyroid (T4) test, blood sugar and a urine test, because these problems become more common with age. Ask your vet what is right for your animal.

  4. Before surgery

Vets often consider blood tests before surgery, such as a CBC with liver, kidney, protein and sugar tests, to check that a cat is fit for anaesthesia. Ask your vet what is right for your animal.

Kitten Diarrhoea and the Stool Tests a Vet May Ask For

FIV and FeLV Testing for Kittens and Newly Adopted Cats

A kitten or a newly adopted cat can be tested for FIV and FeLV with a small blood sample and a rapid kit. A very young kitten or a recent infection can mislead a kit, so a repeat test or RT-PCR may follow.

Cat test questions

Is sample collection free for cats in Bhopal?
Yes. Sample collection is free anywhere in Bhopal. Owners outside Bhopal can send a cat's sample by courier, bus parcel or through their local vet or clinic, and the lab coordinates by phone or WhatsApp on +91 88175 01118.
Which test checks a cat for FIV and FeLV?
An FIV/FeLV combo rapid test, run on a blood serum sample, can help detect infection with either virus. A registered vet reads the result together with the cat's health history and may suggest further tests.
Which tests help if my cat drinks more water or loses weight?
A kidney function test, a blood sugar test, a thyroid (T4) test and a urine test are commonly used to look for causes such as kidney disease, diabetes or an over-active thyroid. Your vet chooses the tests that suit your cat's age and signs.
How is parvo tested in a kitten?
A rapid test on a stool sample can help detect feline parvo, and a CBC can show how the blood is affected. Parvo can become serious quickly, so please show a kitten with vomiting or loose motions to a registered vet without delay.
Can a lab report tell me what is wrong with my cat?
Not on its own. A lab report shows test results, and a registered veterinarian reads them together with your cat's signs and history to find the cause. Please show the report to your vet before any medicine is given.
Can I get cat tests done from Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Ujjain, Sagar, Dewas or Chhindwara?
