Pre-Anaesthetic Panel

Know your pet is fit for surgery before the anaesthesia.

8 tests in one package · Sample: 5 mL - serum + whole blood (EDTA)

The Pre-Anaesthetic Panel checks the blood cells, the liver (AST, ALT and ALP), the kidneys (creatinine and BUN), total protein and blood sugar before a pet goes under anaesthesia. The liver and kidneys help the body clear anaesthetic drugs, and anaemia, low protein or low blood sugar can make anaesthesia riskier. These results help your vet judge the risk and plan the anaesthetic.

Tests inside this package

  • CBC

A CBC counts the red cells, white cells and platelets in a blood sample and can help show anaemia (low red cells), infection or inflammation (the body's reaction to injury). It suits dogs, cats, cows and buffaloes.

HaematologySample: Whole blood (EDTA)Single test: ₹400

  • SGOT / AST

AST (also called SGOT) is an enzyme found in liver and muscle cells. Raised levels may point to liver cell damage or muscle injury.

    BiochemistrySample: Serum (plain)Single test: ₹180

  • SGPT / ALT

SGPT / ALT is a blood test for an enzyme that leaks out of damaged liver cells. It helps vets look for liver injury in dogs and cats, and is read with other tests in cows and buffaloes.

    BiochemistrySample: Serum (plain)Single test: ₹180

  • Creatinine

A serum creatinine test measures a waste product from muscle that the kidneys filter out. A high level may show that the kidneys are not clearing waste well in dogs, cats, cows and buffaloes.

    BiochemistrySample: Serum (plain)Single test: ₹180

  • BUN

BUN (blood urea nitrogen) measures a waste product of protein that the kidneys remove from the blood. High levels may point to kidney problems or dehydration.

    BiochemistrySample: Serum (plain)Single test: ₹180

  • Alkaline Phosphatase

ALP is an enzyme found mainly in the liver, bile ducts and bone. High levels may point to liver or bile duct disease, or to normal bone growth in young animals.

    BiochemistrySample: Serum (plain)Single test: ₹180

  • Total Protein

Total protein is the sum of albumin and globulin, the two main protein groups in blood. Abnormal levels can point to dehydration, liver or kidney problems, or infection.

    BiochemistrySample: Serum (plain)Single test: ₹180

  • Glucose

A Glucose Random (RBS) test measures the sugar in the blood at any time of day, with no fasting needed. It can help find diabetes, low sugar and energy problems in dogs, cats, cows and buffaloes.

    BiochemistrySample: Fluoride plasmaSingle test: ₹180

Questions about this package

Why does my pet need blood tests before anaesthesia?
Many anaesthetic drugs are processed by the liver and cleared by the kidneys, and blood problems can add risk. The panel shows how these are working, so your vet can plan the anaesthetic and watch for problems.
Does a normal pre-anaesthetic panel mean surgery has no risk?
No. The panel lowers the chance of surprises, but no test can remove all anaesthetic risk. Your vet also examines your pet, may check the heart, and decides whether it is right to go ahead.
What happens if a result is abnormal?
Your vet may repeat the test, add other tests, advise treatment first, change the anaesthetic plan, or delay the surgery. The decision depends on your pet and the procedure. Your vet explains the result and the options.

Packages support your veterinarian’s decisions; they do not replace an examination. A registered veterinarian should read the results together with your animal’s signs and history.

Pre-Anaesthetic Tests for Young and Old Pets

Pre-anaesthetic tests are blood checks done before an operation so the vet can plan the anaesthetic around the pet's own body. Young and old pets raise different questions, and a normal result is not a promise of no risk.
