When your vet may advise it
- Your dog has fever, tiredness or poor appetite and has had ticks.
- A blood count shows low platelets (clotting cells) or anaemia (low red cells), and your vet suspects a tick-borne infection.
- Your dog has a cough, tires easily or is losing weight, and your vet suspects heartworm.
- Your dog has painful or swollen joints, or limps along with fever.
- A rescued or newly adopted dog with a tick history needs a first health check.
- Your vet wants to screen a dog that has had heavy ticks, even if it looks well.
About this test
Snap 4Dx is a single-use kit that checks one small blood sample for four things. It looks for heartworm antigen, a protein from adult heartworms, and for antibodies to Ehrlichia, Anaplasma and Lyme disease bacteria. Antibodies are proteins the body makes after it meets a germ.
Ehrlichia, Anaplasma and Lyme germs are spread by ticks. Heartworm is spread by mosquito bites and lives in the heart and the large blood vessels of the lungs. The kit shows a separate result for each of the four.
This entry is the rapid kit form of the test. Antibody results show that a dog has met a germ, not always that it is sick now, so your vet may add PCR or blood counts. The tick-fever PCR tests are listed separately.
How to prepare
No fasting is needed; follow your vet's advice if other tests are done from the same blood sample. The lab uses blood or serum for the kit. Samples are collected free anywhere in Bhopal, and from other places your vet can send the sample by courier or bus parcel.
Reading the result
Each of the four results is read separately: antibody results show the dog has met the germ, and a heartworm antigen result may indicate adult heartworms. A registered veterinarian reads the result with the dog's signs and history and may advise PCR or other tests to confirm.

Before you book this test
Why this notice: so you know, before you book, how a test is done, what its limits are and who is responsible.
- Where it is tested. Some tests are done wholly or partly by an independent partner laboratory. The lab tells you before booking if this test is sent out, and the report names the laboratory that did it.
- What a result can and cannot tell you. No test is right every time. A normal result does not rule out every disease, and an abnormal result does not prove one. A registered veterinarian should read the report with the animal’s signs and history before any treatment is started, changed or stopped.
- The sample. A sample that is clotted, too small, wrongly labelled, leaking or too old may be rejected or reported with a note, and the lab may ask for a fresh one.
- Reporting time. Same day to 24 hours. Times are estimates, not guarantees, and the lab confirms the time when you book.
- Emergencies. A booking or a pending report must not delay urgent care. If an animal has collapsed, struggles to breathe, has fits or bleeds heavily, call a veterinarian at once.
