You can send samples to the Bhopal lab from Indore, Jabalpur, Gwalior and other cities by courier, bus parcel or through your local vet. Book first, pack the sample so it cannot leak, keep it cool, and label it clearly. The lab then confirms what it needs, so the sample arrives in a state that can be tested.
Can the lab collect the sample from my city?
Free sample collection is offered anywhere in Bhopal, but the lab does not promise a collection visit outside Bhopal. From other cities and districts the practical routes are three: your vet or clinic sends it, you send it by courier, or you send it by bus parcel with a bus that runs to Bhopal. All three work, and clinics in Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior use them every day.
What should you do before sending anything?
Call or WhatsApp the lab on +91 88175 01118, or book on the website. Say which animal it is, what signs it has and which tests your vet has asked for. The lab will tell you the right tube, how much to send and how to keep it. Samples sent without a booking can arrive in the wrong tube or too late to test.
How do you pack the common samples?
- Blood for a blood count: needs an EDTA tube (usually purple-topped), filled to the mark and gently mixed. A Complete Blood Count (CBC) cannot be done on clotted blood.
- Urine: a clean, leak-proof container with a tight lid, collected fresh. The Urine Routine is more useful the fresher the urine is.
- Stool: a small fresh sample in a lidded container for the Stool Routine. Do not pick it from soil.
Put each container in its own sealed plastic bag, and wrap it in soft paper so it cannot knock about. Place the bags in a rigid box, with a cold pack kept in a separate bag so it cannot leak onto paperwork. Cool is the goal. Do not freeze samples unless the lab asks you to.
What should the label say?
Write, with a marker pen that does not smudge: the animal's name or number, the owner's name and phone number, the date and time of collection and the test needed. Put a printed or handwritten note inside the box with the same details and the vet's name if there is one. A sample with no label cannot be used safely.
Courier or bus parcel?
A courier gives a tracking number you can share with the lab, and it suits shipments that must arrive in good time. A bus parcel can be quick on the right route, but it depends on the bus and the booking office. Either way, send the sample as soon as possible after collecting it, ask for the fastest option, and tell the lab the tracking or bus details so someone can collect it on arrival. Avoid sending on a day when the parcel could wait over a closed weekend or a holiday.
The lab may ask for a fresh sample, or may report with a note. This is not a mistake on your part; some samples change during travel. A registered veterinarian still reads the report with the animal's signs and history.
Which samples travel well and which need care?
Routine blood in an EDTA tube, urine and stool travel well when kept cool and sent promptly. Other samples are more delicate. Blood smears on glass slides can break or smear. Tissue pieces may need a preservative that the lab must name. Swabs often need a special transport tube. Some tests need serum, which must be separated from the clot first. If you are not sure, ask the lab before you collect anything, because the wrong tube or container cannot always be fixed after the sample has travelled.
