By Pashupatinath Vet Lab Share

Free home sample collection is available anywhere in Bhopal for dogs, cats, cows and buffaloes. You book, a collection executive visits, the samples reach the lab, and your report comes to you on WhatsApp, by email and in your account.

The four steps

  1. Book. Choose your tests or a package on this website. If you need help choosing, call or WhatsApp +91 88175 01118. Give your address in Bhopal, a phone number, the animal's species and age, and what you have noticed.
  2. A collection executive visits. Please keep your phone nearby so that the team can reach you. Exact arrival times cannot be promised, because the visit time can change with traffic and with other visits that day.
  3. The samples reach the lab. They are taken to Pashupatinath Vet Lab at C-200, C Sector, Shahpura, Bhopal for testing.
  4. You get the report. It is shared on WhatsApp or email, and it is saved in your account under My Reports.

Routine tests are normally reported the same day or within 24 hours. For PCR, ELISA, culture, histopathology (tissue examination) and other special tests, the reporting time is confirmed when you book.

What free collection covers

A sick or frightened pet can be stressed by travel, and a cow or buffalo cannot easily be taken to a lab. Home collection avoids both.

The visit is free anywhere in Bhopal. It is meant for the samples your booked tests need. Some samples, such as a tissue biopsy, must be taken by a vet. If your vet has already taken a sample, tell the team when you book.

The free visit is for Bhopal only, and a collection visit outside Bhopal cannot be promised. If you live in another district, read Sending Samples to a Bhopal Vet Lab from Other MP Districts.

Keep these ready at home:

  • your address with a landmark, and a phone number that will be answered
  • the animal's name, age and species, and the tests you booked
  • earlier reports, the vet's note or test list, and a list of any medicines the animal is taking
  • a family member or helper who knows the animal and can stay with it. If you will not be at home, tell the team who will be there

Getting your dog or cat ready

  • Ask at booking whether the test needs an empty stomach. Some tests do and some do not. Do not change feeding or stop any medicine on your own, unless the lab or your vet tells you to.
  • Unless you are told otherwise, keep fresh water available.
  • Keep your pet calm in a quiet room with good light. Keep a collar or leash on. Tell the team in advance if your pet bites or is very afraid of strangers.
  • Keep a cat in a closed room or a carrier until the team arrives, so that it cannot run off or hide. Keep other pets in a different room.
  • Keep a family member at home whom your pet knows and who can hold the pet gently.
  • For urine or stool tests, keep a fresh sample ready in a clean, dry container with a tight lid. Ask at booking if you need a special container.

For a first check, see the Basic Health Panel for dogs and cats. It includes a Complete Blood Count (CBC).

Getting your cow or buffalo ready

  • Tie the animal in a safe, clean place with good light, and have a helper who knows the animal.
  • For milk tests, wash your hands, clean the teats and throw away the first few streams. The steps are in Mastitis in Cows and Buffaloes: CMT and Somatic Cell Count.
  • For a dung test, pick fresh dung from the animal or from the ground as soon as it is passed.
  • Keep children and other animals away from the place where the sample is taken.
  • If your animal has fever with mouth blisters and limping, call your vet and the lab before booking a visit. These may be signs of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), which should be reported and needs special handling.

For a routine farm screen, see the Dairy Cattle Health Check.

When to talk to your vet

Do not wait for a home visit if your animal is very unwell. Go to a vet at once if your pet or farm animal:

  • has trouble breathing
  • collapses or has a seizure
  • has bleeding that will not stop
  • is a cow or buffalo that cannot stand

When your report arrives, check the animal's name, species and age on it. If anything looks wrong, tell the lab on WhatsApp. Keep a copy to show your vet. A report lists results. It is not a diagnosis. A registered veterinarian reads the results together with your animal's signs and history, and decides on treatment or further tests. Please do not start, stop or change any medicine on your own after reading a report.

If you are not sure which test to book, ask your vet. You can also call or WhatsApp the lab on +91 88175 01118 to ask about sample collection. The lab is open every day, 8:00 am to 10:00 pm.

This article is general information and does not replace a veterinarian’s advice. Please talk to a registered veterinarian about your animal’s signs, tests and treatment.
