Feline Corona Virus (Rapid Test)
Feline Corona Virus (Rapid Test) is a quick stool kit test that looks for feline coronavirus in a cat's faeces. It can help show if a cat is passing the virus, but it cannot diagnose FIP, a serious cat disease.

What this test checks
- Feline coronavirus antigen (a virus protein) in faeces
- Whether the virus is being passed in the cat's stool
- A positive or negative kit result for feline coronavirus only
- It is not a test for FIP and cannot diagnose or rule out FIP
Benefits of this test
- Needs only a stool sample, with no blood draw.
- Gives a quick answer from a simple kit.
- Can help your vet look into diarrhoea in a kitten or in a cat from a multi-cat home.
- Helps catteries, shelters and multi-cat homes learn whether the virus is being passed in the group.
- Helps owners understand that coronavirus in the stool is common and is not the same as FIP.
When your vet may advise it
- A kitten or cat has mild diarrhoea that keeps coming back, and your vet wants to look for a viral cause.
- A cat from a shelter, cattery or multi-cat home has diarrhoea.
- Another cat in the home has FIP, and your vet wants to know if the others are passing the virus.
- A breeder or cat rescuer wants to know whether the virus is being passed in a group of cats.
- A rescued kitten has soft stools after arriving from a crowded place.
About this test
Feline coronavirus is a very common virus of cats, especially in homes, shelters and breeding homes (catteries) with many cats. In most cats it infects the gut and causes no illness or only mild diarrhoea. In a small number of cats the virus changes inside the body and leads to feline infectious peritonitis (FIP), a serious disease.
This rapid kit checks a small stool sample for an antigen, a protein that belongs to the virus. The stool is mixed with a liquid, and a few drops go on a test device. Coloured lines show whether the virus is being passed in the stool.
Here the test is the rapid kit form. A positive result shows virus in the stool; it does not mean the cat has FIP. A negative result does not rule the virus out either, because some cats pass it on and off.
How to prepare
No fasting is needed. Collect a fresh stool sample in a clean, closed container with as little litter as possible. Free collection is available anywhere in Bhopal, and from other places your vet can send the sample by courier or bus parcel.
Reading the result
A positive result may indicate that the cat is passing feline coronavirus, which is common and often causes no illness; it does not diagnose FIP. A registered veterinarian reads the result with the cat's signs and history and uses other tests if FIP is suspected.

Before you book this test
Why this notice: so you know, before you book, how a test is done, what its limits are and who is responsible.
- Where it is tested. Some tests are done wholly or partly by an independent partner laboratory. The lab tells you before booking if this test is sent out, and the report names the laboratory that did it.
- What a result can and cannot tell you. No test is right every time. A normal result does not rule out every disease, and an abnormal result does not prove one. A registered veterinarian should read the report with the animal’s signs and history before any treatment is started, changed or stopped.
- The sample. A sample that is clotted, too small, wrongly labelled, leaking or too old may be rejected or reported with a note, and the lab may ask for a fresh one.
- Reporting time. Same day to 24 hours. Times are estimates, not guarantees, and the lab confirms the time when you book.
- Emergencies. A booking or a pending report must not delay urgent care. If an animal has collapsed, struggles to breathe, has fits or bleeds heavily, call a veterinarian at once.
