Horse Pre-purchase Panel

Blood health checks plus EIA, glanders and a blood parasite smear, for a horse you are thinking of buying.

7 tests in one package · Sample: Serum + whole blood (EDTA)

The Horse Pre-purchase Panel combines a general blood check with disease screening for a horse you are thinking of buying. It looks at blood cells, liver, kidneys and muscle enzyme, and adds EIA, glanders and a blood parasite smear. Blood tests do not replace the vet's physical examination, and they cannot promise that a horse will stay healthy. A vet should take the samples. A registered veterinarian reads the results together with the animal's signs and history.

Questions about this package

Does a clean blood panel mean the horse is sound?
No. Blood tests do not show lameness, eye problems or behaviour. A vet's physical examination is still needed.
Who should take the samples?
A veterinarian should take them and call the lab before sending, especially for glanders.
Will the buyer or authority accept the report?
The lab cannot promise that. Ask the buyer, event or authority what they need, and your vet can advise what to send.

Packages support your veterinarian’s decisions; they do not replace an examination. A registered veterinarian should read the results together with your animal’s signs and history.
