Herd Screening Pack
Screen a dairy herd for brucellosis, FMD, tick fever and worms.
4 tests in one package
The Herd Screening Pack checks for four common health problems in dairy cows and buffaloes: brucellosis, foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), tick fever and worms. Brucellosis and FMD are infectious diseases that can spread through a herd, brucellosis can also pass to people, and tick fever and worms quietly reduce milk and growth. Testing for them together gives your vet a clear picture of the herd's health.
Tests inside this package
-
The brucellosis test looks for antibodies to Brucella bacteria in a cow's or buffalo's serum, using RBPT screening or ELISA. Brucellosis can pass to people, so positive results are managed with your vet.
Cow & Buffalo (Livestock) TestsSample: Serum
-
The FMD test uses RT-PCR to look for foot-and-mouth disease virus in blister samples or swabs, and ELISA to look for antibodies in serum. FMD is notifiable, so tell your vet or the animal husbandry department.
Cow & Buffalo (Livestock) TestsSample: Vesicular fluid / epithelium / swab (PCR); serum (ELISA)
-
Tick Fever Panel (Cattle & Buffalo)
The tick fever panel checks a stained blood smear from a cow or buffalo for Theileria, Babesia and Anaplasma, the germs behind tick fever. Your vet reads the report with the animal's signs.
Cow & Buffalo (Livestock) TestsSample: Whole blood (EDTA) + blood smear
-
The worm egg count checks a fresh dung sample under the microscope and counts worm eggs. A high count may indicate a heavy worm load; your vet decides if the animal needs treatment.
Cow & Buffalo (Livestock) TestsSample: Fresh dung
