Mastitis Deep Check Pack
CMT, cell count, milk culture and a mastitis RT-PCR panel for cows and buffaloes with udder infection.
4 tests in one package · Sample: Fresh milk from each quarter (clean sample, before antibiotics)
The Mastitis Deep Check Pack takes the udder check further than a screening test. The CMT and cell count show inflammation, culture finds the germ and shows which antibiotics may work, and the RT-PCR panel can find hard-to-grow germs. Milk should be taken clean from each quarter and before antibiotics. Results are for the owner's information. A registered veterinarian reads the results together with the animal's signs and history.
Tests inside this package
-
California mastitis test (CMT)
The California Mastitis Test (CMT) is a quick paddle test that checks milk from each udder quarter for raised somatic cells, a sign of mastitis. It is commonly used to screen cows and buffaloes for hidden (subclinical) mastitis.
Milk TestsSample: Fresh milk, quarter by quarter
-
A somatic cell count (SCC) counts the cells in a milk sample, most of them white blood cells. A rising count can signal udder inflammation such as mastitis in cows and buffaloes, even when the milk looks normal.
Milk TestsSample: Fresh milk (quarter or composite)
-
Milk culture and sensitivity grows the bacteria causing mastitis from a clean quarter milk sample and tests which antibiotics may work against them. It helps a vet choose care for cows and buffaloes with mastitis.
Milk TestsSample: Aseptic quarter milk sample
-
Mastitis pathogen RT-PCR panel
A mastitis pathogen RT-PCR panel checks a quarter milk sample for the DNA of common mastitis germs, such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus species and E. coli. It can find several organisms at once, but it does not show which antibiotics may work.
Milk TestsSample: Aseptic quarter milk sample

Mastitis Testing: CMT, Cell Count, Culture and RT-PCR
Mastitis testing works like a ladder. A cowside CMT shows which udder quarter is inflamed, a cell count measures how much, a culture finds the germ and shows which antibiotics may work, and RT-PCR finds germs that are hard to grow.
